Super is a
suite of Java tools with Open Source Edition and Enterprise Edition. The core of the original Super Scheduler and
Super Watchdog is an open source program with GPL license.
New
Super Scheduler EE and
Super Watchdog EE are based on open
source Super
Scheduler and
Super Watchdog.
They are components of Super EE (Enterprise Edition) providing Enterprise
features. Super Scheduler is a better alternative for other scheduler, such as AutoSys
for workload automation.
Super is a task scheduler, for general purpose job scheduling and event monitoring. It is open source with GPL license.
Super is written entirely in Java. It is component based architecture. It has the following components:
Super Scheduler: A task scheduler for all system and application job
scheduling. It can be run on any node of the network at any time.
Super Watchdog: A task scheduler for all system and application job
scheduling by events, such as file time-stamp change. It can be run on any
node of the network at any time. Super with Super Scheduler and Super Watchdog is a standalone program, does not work directly for any application server.
How to install
Unzip downloaded zip file to the destination directory. That is all needed to install Super.
It is recommended the name of the directory is AceletSuper, because the directory name is referenced in the document as Super Home.
License
Super is an open source program with GNU General Public License v2 license.
Known issues
Document
The document is copied from Super EE, Super Scheduler EE and Super Watchdog EE, which are with enterprise features. The core engine of SuperScheduler/SuperWatchdog are the same. So the document is useful. But it contains something Super/SuperScheduler/SuperWatchdog do not need. It would be nice if these parts of document be removed. The document needs to be improved. Any contribution is welcome.
Super EE (Enterprise Edition) is a suite of Java tools. A toolkit for management and development. Super is written entirely in Java.
Super is a component based architecture. It has the following components:
Easy EJB (SuperPeekPoke):
An visual EJB tool for inspection and execution. Call EJB by clicking!.
Easy Webservice:
A visual Web Service tool for all Web Service servers, including all J2EE servers,
Java EE servers, Microsoft .NET, Grid (Globus and Univa) and other Web Service servers.
For both stateless and stateful Web Service. Call Webservice by clicking!
Limpid Debugger: A GUI debugger for
Limpid Log.
Super Environment:
An environment monitor and management tool for distributed environment, such
as J2EE and Grid computing.
Super Log (SuperLogging):
A J2EE, Java EE logging system combining both log for debugging (LimpidLog)
and log for auditing (AuditLog), with dynamical management GUI and source level Java
and JSP tracing.
Super Scheduler:
A task scheduler for all system and application job scheduling. It can be run on any node of the network at any time. It
uses Easy EJB and
Easy Websevice for setting EJB and WebService tasks visually.
Super Log Reader (SuperTracer): A J2EE, Java EE log tracer and reader, with syntax highlighting. A
single mouse click brings source code.
Super Watchdog:
A task scheduler for all system and application job scheduling by events, such as
file time-stamp change. It can be run on any node of the
network at any time. It uses Easy EJB and
Easy Webservice for setting EJB and WebService tasks visually.SuperArch is the framework for Super. All above components are hosted on SuperArch.
Super, as a suite of tools, is greater than the sum of its parts. Many of its components work together providing more dimensions.
Super can be installed for specific J2EE server (Weblogic, Websphere or others) or no server (Universal) at all. Both Universal installation and J2EE installation work for Web Service, any Web Service server, including both stateless Web Service (for standard Web Service), and stateful Web Service ( for Grid computing). By supporting Webservice, Super is also a toolkit for SOA (Service-oriented-architecture). Installation for specified application server allows you to use server specific modules, such as Easy EJB, Easy JMX, Super Log and Super Log Reader.
SuperArch provides built-in
functionality as well as extensions as SuperComponents. Users can install extensions onto it.
How to install
1. Unzip downloaded zip file to a temporary directory.
2. Run:
install.bat (Windows)
sh install.sh (Unix, Linux)
Then follow the GUI installer to install.

The differences between Standard license and Enterprise license
Super EE provides Standard license and Enterprise license. Both Standard and Enterprise licenses are perpetual.
Standard license is free. Standard license is "AS IS". Technical support is available as our resources permit.
Standard license allows Super Scheduler EE and Super Watchdog EE to have maximum 5 tasks (altogether 10). There is no limitation for Enterprise license.
Standard license does not impose any restrictions for Super Log and Limpid Debugger.
Technical support for Enterprise license is guaranteed.
Functionality differences:
Open source Super contains two modules: Super Scheduler and Super Watchdog.
Super EE contains more modules, including Super Scheduler EE and Super Watchdog EE, which are based on the open source Super Scheduler and Super Watchdog, with Enterprise features.
